Ro5-4864[1]または、4'-クロロジアゼパムは、ジアゼパムのベンゾジアゼピン誘導体である[2]。しかし、ほとんどのベンゾジアゼピン誘導体とは異なり、Ro5-4864はGABAA受容体に対する親和性を欠き、典型的なベンゾジアゼピン作用を示さない[3]。代わりに鎮静作用を有し、また、痙攣誘発（英語版）作用および不安惹起（英語版）作用を有する[4][5][6][7]。Ro5-4864は、後にミトコンドリアトランスロケータータンパク質18kDa（英語版）（TSPO）と改名された「末梢ベンゾジアゼピン受容体」[8]に対する強力なリガンドであることが判明した。痙攣誘発作用があるにも関わらず、低用量のRo5-4864は神経保護（英語版）作用を示すことが証明され、神経毒性におけるTSPOタンパク質の役割に関する研究で広く使用されるようになった[9][10][11][12][13][14]。in vitro研究およびげっ歯類モデルでは、鎮痛作用[15]、抗うつ作用[16]、心臓保護作用[17]、抗腫瘍作用[18][19][20][21]の可能性も示唆されている[要非一次資料]。
