・基本的に不定法と一緒に用いられる動詞
例1：Nōs cum Claudiō in viīs ambulāre volumus.
We want to walk in the streets with Claudius.
・cum(+abl)〈英〉with
・viīsはvia(noun 1st declen.)の複数・奪格
・in(+acc)でin viasとする場合は意味が変化する。
→〈英〉into the streets
例2：Nautae ad patriās suās nāvigāre volunt.
The sailors wish to sail to their homelands.
volōの活用（直接法・能動相・現在）

・単数(singular)
1st person: volō〈英〉I want
2nd person: vīs〈英〉You(sg.) want
3rd person: vult〈英〉He/She/It wants
・複数(plural)
1st person: volumus〈英〉We want
2nd person: vultis〈英〉You(pl.) want
3rd person: volunt〈英〉They want

意味：I do not wish, I do not want, I am unwilling〈英〉
★nōn volōの短縮形(contraction)である

nōlōの活用（直接法・能動相・現在）

・単数(singular)
1st person: nōlō〈英〉I do not want, I'm not willing
2nd person: nōn vīs〈英〉You(sg.) do not want
3rd person: nōn vult〈英〉He/She/It does not want
・複数(plural)
1st person: nōlumus〈英〉We do not want
2nd person: nōn vultis〈英〉You(pl.) do not want
3rd person: nōlunt〈英〉They do not want
・2人称単数、3人称単数、2人称複数の活用は短縮形になっていない。

(3) Perfect Active〈英〉I have preferred
・語源的にはmagis(adv.)とvolōとの組み合わせで"I wish for more", "I want something for more"
・magisの意はmore, more greatlyもしくはrather
・活用形に〈malō〉が存在する他の語と混同しないように気を付けること！
