The heavy rain in the morning on 28th September filled East Freshwater Pond with a bulk of water. It relieves us of anxiety for losing winter habitat for waterfowls.
The pond completely dried up in the past few months.

A large flock of White-cheeked Staring was observed going to and fro between Eastern Freshwater Pond and Shio-iri Pond.  They extended a flock at reed bed clearance area where reed and reed maces were cut and removed for the purpose of producing appropriate habitat for winter ducks.  The area might be a good restaurant for them to find and pick insects and other food.

Several number of Azure-winged Magpie’s flocks were also observed around Nature Center.  Flocks with some juvenile birds were a bit noisy but lively.

Today park ranger at least observed a Gray-spotted Flycatcher, that was often talked on by visitors in the last few days. Report from visitors say there are three birds.
