Wild Thickets Series II  - Grassland Hitchhikers Growing Wild in the Wild Bird Park

event_banner_20170868kusabo2-2
Date: October 22, Sunday 10 AM - 12 PM (Rain or Shine)

Grasses, when left to their own devices in nature, tend to grow wildly and uncontrollably. Here at the Wild Bird Park, in Ecological Garden, there are certain areas where they are allowed to do so. If and when you walk through these overgrown thickets, you'll notice the hitchhikers on your clothes and shoes and even on your shoelaces! If you have pets who roam around outside, you are sure to be familiar with these pesky things!

The Park Rangers will talk about why they exist, and what are these grass hitchhikers and burrs are all about. Many are actually hooked seeds that are looking for a unique way to be dispersed into a new area. The Rangers will also explain about plant ecology and plant succession -which is the transition of grasslands into forests over time.

As one of the highlights of the event, enjoy a special cup of coffee from South East Asia! This little brew is actually pretty famous because the beans are gathered from a mysterious processing method - animal dung! Perhaps you have heard of this type of coffee already, but if you are brave enough to try a taste, please join us! You can learn more about it from our Rangers as you sip on this special blend!  (FYI - drinking the coffee is not required to join the event!)

Target Audience: Individuals and Familes with kids aged over Elementary 3rd grade and up
