Today the Rangers hosted a program for English & Japanese Speakers at the Park with a total of 9 participants (Park staff included 6 people).
The morning activities included a guided tour of the East side of the Park, where they saw various birds and notable, three Common Buzzards flying in together (Nosuri).  Some people caught a slight glimpse of a Black-faced Bunting (Aoji). The walk including the Areas usually closed to the public, where many waterbirds could be seen, notably, a large flock of Eurasian Coots (Ooban), about 5 Common Reed Buntings (Oojyurin) feeding in the reeds, and using the scope, participants could see the bright red eye of the Eared Grebe (Hajiro-Kaitsuburi). For some participants it was their first time to go bird watching. The experienced birdwatchers took time to explain to the beginners how to spot the birds and teach bird names and help with pronunciation in English. One beginner birder was able to add a first-time sighting to her personal life list. It was nice to know that the Bird Park is a nice attraction for both experienced birders and beginners as they are learning more about the basics of appreciation of nature.

A total of 31 species birds were seen during the morning walk.

In the afternoon, at the Ecology Education Center participants had time to introduce themselves and share their stories with informal exchange over lunch. After lunch, Rangers gave presentations about the Park’s history and Environmental Education Programs currently conducted at the Park. Following that, the Rangers asked participants to offer ideas about future programs and possibilities for expanding upon these programs. P2210085
Good ideas were suggested to increase programs for foreigners and 16-30 year old youth who use the Park. Everyone was enjoying the conversations and discussions were lively going beyond the official end-time of the event. DSC00064
