自分でも意外だったことですが、「気になる語法」で次の表現を取り上げて書いていませんでした。

気がついた契機は、米国での痛ましい事件。

このニュースを追いかけて連ツイしていました。

地元メディアから。

の典型例ですね。

が出てきました。

こちらは「容疑者」で訳出。

私が「英語ニュースRT…」で取り上げた初出は恐らくこちら。ほぼ5年前ですね。

見出しの現在時制。
sayの伝達文での節中に現在完了形。
他動詞 identify + 人「その人が誰なのかを明らかにする；…を特定する」
a person of interest 「重要参考人」は「被疑者・容疑者」の婉曲的な表現として報道でよく使われる。人気ドラマのタイトルにもありましたよね？
前置詞inの確認を！

the person of interest は「容疑者」の婉曲表現。趣味人ではない。犯罪に関与しているとされるが告訴や逮捕されていない人。(be) at large は「未拘束」で「 逃走中」が基本。on the loose は「非拘束」でunchainedの意味のうち「拘束から自由になった」→「 脱走中」が基本。

person (s) of interestはニュース英語だけではなく、近年広く用いられている。辞書だとMW’sの一般用にはperson of interestで独立のエントリーがあり、初出は1937年とある(MW’sの学習用にはエントリーはなし）。

にも共通して、北米で広く見聞きされる用語という印象だが、COCAのデータだとspokenでの頻度が高いことに注目。

今年に入ってから、こんなツイートをしていました。

日本語では「容[被]疑者」の「疑」という言い方が定着しているので、この英語のinterestを最初に学んだ・身につけた時の語感・実感と相容れないのかな？

O-LEXの第３版では、見出し項目として起こしているので、用例検索ではヒットしません。見出し語で検索して下さい。

で、訳語は「容疑者、被疑者」と簡潔な扱いで、その背景や意図などは書かれていません。

CambridgeはWeb版に収録。複数形としては "persons" を示しています。

事件報道では、被疑者（容疑者； 重要参考人）が使用したと思しき、「乗り物；車両」に言及する際にも、この "of interest" が使われます。

「関係車両」で処理していますね。
