今日の気になる語法は

a robbery gone wrong

8月15日のELEC協議会の教員対象のセミナーでも「チャンクの類型ごとの実例」の一つとして取り上げる予定です。
辞書にはまだ用例も載っていないようですが、近年使用例は確実に増えていると思います。

私は便宜上

そんなはずじゃなかった強盗

という和訳を当てています。簡単な状況込みで言うなら、

強盗中に起こった想定外の出来事で死者が出るとか、襲った方が返り討ちにあうなどの想定外の結末

辺りでしょうか。

強盗未遂は通例 an attempted robbery で表しますので、未遂に終わった場合は、合わせ技で表現されることもあります。

今日は「気になる語法」ということで、近年使用頻度が高くなっている、
