Boeing Co. on Thursday said it will close its loss-making, high-speed broadband communications service, Connexion by Boeing, taking charges of up to $320 million in the second half.
結局、私は一度も使う機会がないまま、Boeingによる航空機内のインターネット接続サービスは終了の方向へ。
Germany's Lufthansa, Scandinavian carrier SAS, All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines and Singapore Airlines were the only major carriers offering the service on flights.
思ったよりも、Connection by Boeingを採用していた航空会社は多くなかった。採算があわなかったのか、需要が少なかったのか。Boeingは次のように言う。
"Regrettably, the market for this service has not materialized as had been expected."
どこでもインターネットは便利だと思うのだが、コネクティビティだけでなく、携帯にすぐれたインターネット端末の普及も必要なのだろう。
