Secretary Bessent says I am wrong to have described him as seeking to impose Versailles-like terms on Ukraine the victim, rather than the aggressor.

Bessent misses the point when he focuses on debt vs. equity. Either way, his trip to Ukraine was to demand that Ukraine give a stream of income to the US as some kind of compensation. Read Keynes. This was the central error of Versailles.
A close look at the relative value of growth linked and regular Ukraine debt supports the view that the Bessent deal was bad for Ukraine’s economy.

After the events of Friday afternoon in the Oval Office, I wonder if Treasury Secretary Bessent stands by his view that President Trump should receive a Nobel Prize for his efforts with respect to Russia and Ukraine. It might be the most absurd, offensive and sycophantic comment ever made by a Treasury Secretary.
A responsible Treasury Secretary would be trying to mobilize resources for Ukraine, rather than extracting compensation from Ukraine.
