This album was the breakthrough work of Chick Corea, who gained attention as a sideman for Stan Getz.
Bud Powell's influence can be seen, but everyone agreed that this work clearly marked the birth of a new era of pianists.
This is a trio performance that skillfully balances a refreshing sense of rhythm and novel sensation.
A CD containing unreleased takes was later released, but the performance from the original album is still superior.
I highly recommend this album to anyone who wants to listen to cool piano jazz right away.
