大葉栽培への興味が芽生えた

大葉（紫蘇の葉）を育てている方の記事が目にとまった。というのも、ちょうどその日に冷製パスタ風ソーメンを作ったからである。レシピではトマトと大葉が主な材料だったのだが、家になかった大葉を抜いた不完全な形で作ってしまったことが気になっていた。大葉はあると便利だが家に常備していることは少ないので、家で栽培できれば、いつでも料理に加えることができて便利そうである。

記事を読んで感心したのは、育っている様子を写真に撮って、生成AIにその写真に基づいたアドバイスをもらっていたことだ。生成AIは園芸のコツまで伝授してくれるのだな。実に先進的な育て方である。
ホームセンターに行く機会があって、園芸に必要なセットが手に入れば、大葉かそれに近いものを育て始めてしまうかもしれない。
AI英会話サービスの進化を実感
今回は上記に引き続いて、ブロガーさんたちの記事をキッカケに思ったことをつらつら書いてみる。
昔、AI英会話のスピークを利用していたのだが、1年で辞めてしまった。好きな時に好きなだけ練習できるので良いじゃないかと思って、最初の1ヶ月くらいは頑張っていたのだが、怠け癖が出たのと、機械相手だとなんだか張り合いがなくて続かなかった。

ただ、ブログ村経由で拝見したこのブロガーさんの記事を見ると、最近のスピークのAIの受け答えは、かなりレベルアップしているらしい。またスピークをやりたいかと言われると、続ける自信がないので微妙という感じだが、サービスが向上していること自体は興味深い。最初に紹介した記事といい、いろいろな場所でAIが活用されている。

ブログコミュニティでの交流について
最近、ブログ熱が再発していて（自分の性格上、いずれ収まるのだが…）記事を気ままにアップしている。せっかくなら書くだけではなく、他のブロガーさんの記事も読んでいきたいと思っていて、気になった記事については感想を書き留めている。
はてなブログの利用者同士だと、誰かのブログについて言及すると相手のブロガーの方にその通知が飛ぶ。

例えば、上のはてなブログでは、私のブログの記事にカナエイジさんが言及してくださっているので（ありがとうございます）、その通知が私にも届いた。ただ、はてなブログでないと、この機能は使えない。
かつてのトラックバック機能を懐かしむ
いにしえのブログでは、トラックバックといって、あなたの記事に言及しましたよと通信を飛ばす機能が大半のサービスで標準的に搭載されていて、利用するプロバイダーが違っても対応できていた。
ただ、記事本文に関係のない広告的な通知が氾濫するようになって、トラックバックは大半のブログサービスで廃止されてしまった。コメント欄があれば、あなたの記事に言及させてもらいましたと一言書く手もあるのだけれど、あえてお伝えするのも、やや気が引ける。相手の方に見ていただくほど自信のある記事を書いているわけでもないし。今のところは、失礼にならない範囲で、ひっそりと当ブログで言及する程度にしておこう。

The recipe called for tomatoes and shiso as the main ingredients, but I made an incomplete version without the shiso that I didn't have at home, which had been bothering me. Shiso is convenient to have but rarely kept as a household staple, so if I could cultivate it at home, I could add it to dishes anytime, which seems convenient.
What impressed me about the article was that they took photos of the growing process and received advice from generative AI based on those photos. Generative AI can even impart gardening tips. It's truly a progressive way of growing plants.
If I have an opportunity to visit a home improvement store and can obtain the necessary gardening supplies, I might start growing shiso or something similar.
Experiencing the Evolution of AI English Conversation Services
Continuing from the above, I'll write about thoughts triggered by fellow bloggers' articles.
I used to use Speak, an AI English conversation app, but quit after a year. I thought it was great because I could practice whenever and as much as I wanted, and I worked hard for about the first month, but my lazy habits emerged, and I couldn't continue because conversing with a machine felt somehow unrewarding.

Reminiscing About the Old Trackback Function
In blogs of old, there was a function called trackback that sent communication saying "I mentioned your article," which was standardly installed in most services and could work across different providers.
However, advertising-related notifications unrelated to article content began to proliferate, and trackback was abolished by most blog services. If there's a comment section, one could write a note saying "I mentioned your article," but actively informing someone feels somewhat hesitant. AI翻訳に対する感想
within the bounds of politeness 上の語彙解説にもあるが、「失礼にならない範囲で」の表現は興味深い。boundは、複数形にすると境界、範囲という意味らしい。なぜ、複数形なのかは私の知識ではよくわからないが、「丁寧に収まる範囲内で」くらいの意味になるのだろう。
Reminiscing 元の形はReminisceという動詞で、「思い出にふける」という意味。AIが選定した語彙解説の中に含まれなかったが、気になった単語。
Since I'm at it 「せっかくなので」に対応する訳。ちょっとこれだけだと意味が分かりにくいのでAIに質問してみた。回答は次の通り。
「Since I'm at it」は 「せっかくだから」「ついでに」「どうせやるなら」 という意味の英語表現です。直訳すると： 「それをやっている時なので」実際の意味： すでに何かをしているので、その機会を活かして他のことも一緒にやろう、という気持ちを表します。この文での使い方：すでにブログを書いているせっかくブログをやっているのだから、書くだけじゃなくて他の人の記事も読もう似たような日本語表現：「せっかくなら」「どうせなら」「ついでに」「この機会に」他の例文："I'm cleaning the kitchen. Since I'm at it, I'll clean the dining room too." （キッチンを掃除している。ついでにダイニングルームも掃除しよう）"I'm going to the store.
