ベランダのような狭いスペースにも置ける水遊びのグッズとして、この夏、折りたたみプール、ウォーターテーブルなど、以下のものを揃えたので紹介したい。

温暖化の影響で夏がどんどん暑くなり、日中子どもを外遊びに連れ出すのは命に関わる時代になった。外出せずに家でも水遊びをさせてあげられると良いと思ったのがきっかけである。

その名の通り水遊び用のテーブル型のおもちゃである。脚の上に水をためる桶の部分があって、桶部には水を流して遊ぶ水路や、水車などを取り付けることができる。

昨年はスリーコインズで簡易的なものを買ったのだが、コストコで売られているもののほうがしっかりしているので、今年はコストコで購入してきた。

ちなみにコストコでは夏に入る前に売り切れてしまうようだ。Amazonや楽天では、おそらくコストコで仕入れられたものが転売されている。

ウォーターテーブルはかさばるため、使用のたびに持ち運ぶのは面倒である。普段はベランダにそのまま置いてある。使っていない時に、汚れたり細かい部品が風で飛んでいかないよう、ウォーターテーブルを覆うカバーを用意した。

折りたたみ式の小型プール - 設営簡単な水遊び場

小型のプールには空気を入れて膨らませるものもあるが、膨らませたり空気を抜いたりするのが面倒そうだと思ったので、折りたたみ式のものを購入した。

折りたたまれたプールを広げるだけで水を入れられる状態になるので便利である。ただし、当然クッション性はないので、硬い床に置くとプールの床も硬くなる。しかし、それほど激しい運動をするわけでもないだろうし、水につかるだけなら大丈夫である。

どちらかというとペット用のプールとして売り出されているようで、少し微妙な感じを受けるかもしれないが、子どもの使用も想定されている。変わり種だと、浴槽のない住居に住む人が、これを浴槽代わりにして入浴することもあるようだ。

ウォーターテーブルやプールに水をためる時に使うホースは、少し長めのものを買ったほうが後から短く切ることも可能なので、短すぎるものを買うよりも便利だと思う。

ホースはサイズが決まっているので、ホース側に取り付けるジョイントは特に悩まないと思う。

一方、蛇口側に取り付けるニップルは、蛇口の形や大きさによって選択肢があるので悩みの種になり得る。

我が家のベランダの蛇口は、最先端だけ口径が大きく、それ以外は細い形だったので、適当なニップルがなかった。先端の太い部分に合わせて、大きい蛇口用のニップルを取り付けたが、隙間ができるため、水を勢いよく出すと少し水が漏れる。ただし許容範囲だった。

最近は暑い季節が長いので、これらのグッズがまだまだ活躍しそうである。狭いベランダでも工夫次第で、子どもが楽しめる水遊び環境を作ることができる。

I'd like to introduce the water play equipment I assembled this summer for narrow spaces like verandas, including a foldable pool and water table.

Due to global warming, summers are getting increasingly hot, and taking children outside for play during the day has become a matter of life and death. This motivated me to create a way for them to enjoy water play at home without going out.

Water Table - The Central Water Play Item

As the name suggests, this is a table-type toy designed for water play. It has a basin section on top of legs where water can be stored, and the basin can be equipped with waterways for flowing water play and water wheels.

Last year I bought a simple version from Three Coins, but the ones sold at Costco are more robust, so this year I purchased one from Costco.

Incidentally, Costco seems to sell out before summer arrives. On Amazon and Rakuten, items presumably procured from Costco are being resold.

Water Table Protective Cover - Essential for Outdoor Storage

Since the water table is bulky, carrying it back and forth for each use is troublesome. It's usually left on the veranda as is. I prepared a cover to protect the water table from getting dirty or having small parts blown away by wind when not in use.

Foldable Small Pool - Easy Setup Water Play Area

While there are small pools that require inflation, I thought inflating and deflating would be cumbersome, so I purchased a foldable type.

The folded pool can be ready for water simply by unfolding it, which is convenient. However, naturally there's no cushioning, so if placed on a hard floor, the pool bottom becomes hard too. But since there won't be particularly vigorous exercise, just soaking in water should be fine.

It appears to be marketed primarily as a pet pool, which might seem somewhat dubious, but it's also designed for children's use. Interestingly, some people living in residences without bathtubs apparently use these as makeshift bathtubs.

For hoses used to fill the water table and pool, I think buying a slightly longer one is more convenient than buying one that's too short, since you can always cut it shorter later.

Joints and Nipples for Connecting Hose to Faucet

Since hoses have standardized sizes, choosing joints for the hose side shouldn't be particularly troublesome.

On the other hand, nipples attached to the faucet side can be problematic since there are various options depending on the faucet's shape and size.

Our veranda faucet had a large diameter only at the tip, with the rest being narrow, so there wasn't a suitable nipple. I attached a large-faucet nipple to match the thick tip section, but gaps remained, causing slight water leakage when water pressure is high. However, this was within acceptable limits.

Both the hose-side joint and faucet-side nipple allow one-touch attachment and detachment.

Foot Safety Measures - Sandals and Covers

I purchased veranda sandals with drainage holes to ensure they perform well even when wet.

Since leaving sandals on the veranda causes them to get dirty and they might blow away on windy days, I also purchased covers to protect the sandals when not in use.

Foldable Chair for Supervision - Addressing Parental Fatigue

Since standing continuously while children play is tiring for parents, I prepared a simple foldable chair. However, care must be taken to prevent accidents where children might use it as a stepping stool and fall off the veranda.

Since hot seasons have become longer recently, these items should continue to be useful. Even on narrow verandas, with some creativity, you can create an enjoyable water play environment for children.
