「恋するムービー」考察：王道ラブコメと“水と油”の表現に見る言語の妙

先日、１年越しで「涙の女王」のシリーズを完走し、次に鑑賞する作品を探していたところ、Netflixにて「恋するムービー」という作品を見つけた。

 

現在２話まで視聴しているが、本作は良質なロマンチックコメディであり、傑作の予感がする。全10話という短さが惜しく感じられるほどである。

 

「涙の女王」はスリラー的要素も含まれていたが、「恋するムービー」はより王道の恋愛路線を採用している。緊迫感は控えめであり、結末がハッピーエンドであることも予測しやすいため、安心して鑑賞することができる。そのため、意外と早く全話を見終えることになりそうである。

 

物語は、映画業界に従事する男女の恋愛模様を描いたものである。男性は映画評論家、女性は映画監督であり、仕事柄対立しつつも互いに惹かれていくという構図である。展開そのものは恋愛ドラマの定型に倣っていると思われるが、ストーリーも登場人物も陳腐さはなく、十分に楽しめる内容である。

 

今回も英語音声・日本語字幕にて鑑賞したところ、劇中のセリフに「oil and water」という表現が用いられていた。二人の相性の悪さを示す文脈であったが、日本語の「水と油」という言い回しと同様の表現が英語にも存在する点が興味深い。異なる文化圏で似たような比喩表現が独自に生まれる場合もあれば、一方の言語から他方に輸入されて広まる場合もある。水と油という比喩は、果たしてどちらのケースなのか気になるところである。

 

なお、「恋するムービー」以外にもNetflixにて複数作品を並行して視聴しているため、当面は鑑賞コンテンツに困ることはなさそうである。

The story follows a man and woman in the film industry—a critic and a director—who clash professionally but gradually develop romantic feelings. Although the plot may follow familiar tropes, the characters and storytelling are fresh and enjoyable.

 

Watching with English audio and Japanese subtitles, I caught a line saying the couple were “like oil and water.” Just like the Japanese “水と油,” this phrase highlights incompatibility. It’s fascinating how similar idioms appear across different cultures. Sometimes such metaphors evolve independently; other times, one language borrows from another. It’s unclear which applies to this one.

 

I’m also watching several other series on Netflix, so I won’t be running out of things to watch anytime soon.
