2024年度（※）第3回英検1級の1次試験の結果が出た。受験直後は手応えがあったものの、残念ながら不合格となった。
（※）英検で使われる年度は、日本の会計年度と同じく4月始まりの3月終わり。
しかし、良い点もあった。前回よりも合計点が伸び、全科目でスコアが向上している。今回のバンドはマイナス2で、合格にはあと2段階のスコアアップが必要だ。前回はマイナス3、前々回はマイナス6だったことを考えると、着実に前進している。
詳細に分析すると、リーディングは合格者の平均点を超えていた。一方、リスニングは合格者の平均点には届かないが、全受験生の平均点は上回っている。苦手なライティングは、全受験生の平均にも大きく届かない。
これを踏まえると「一勝二敗」といったところか。しかし、合格のためには「一勝一敗一引き分け」くらいの成績がほしい。
まず、リスニングは合格者の平均点に届くことを目標にする。つまり「引き分け」に持ち込むことが理想だ。対策として、スクリプト付きの音源を繰り返し聴き、正確に聞き取れるまで練習を重ねる。
ライティングは「負け」でもやむを得ないが、大敗は避けたい。合格者の平均点には届かなくても、全受験生の平均点を上回る程度に留めたい。そのため、昼休みの時間を活用し、模範解答を筆写したり音読したりして、良い表現を覚えていく。これは2次試験の面接対策にもつながるはずだ。
まもなく2025年度が始まる。来年度こそ1次試験の合格を果たしたい。
