In the table below you can compare the contents of the different variants of the codec pack.
Do not underestimate the power of the Basic and Standard variants. Those two small variants of the codec pack are already able to play practically everything! For a good overview of the abilities of the the different variants, please have a look at the comparison of abilities page.
All variants of the K-Lite Codec Pack are fully customizable. You can specify exactly which components get installed.
The Mega variant of the codec pack contains some components that are not installed by default, but are included purely as an alternative choice for some of the default components. These alternative choices are indicated with a yellowish shade of green in the table. We recommend using the default components. The alternatives do NOT allow you to play more files, and are only useful in specific circumstances.
